Today marks the first day of spring and hints of it are everywhere. New buds are popping. Grass is greener. Life is on full display. Choosing to ignore this can be detrimental to our mindsets. This is not a fanciful dream that ignores the negative, but rather an alternate reality we can participate in. Viewing our world in a light that is not gloom and doom can provide an energy that is uplifting and bright. During this time, the laughter of my children has given me a new perspective. Their ability to see past what can feel like a prison is invigorating and refreshing. As they rediscover their imagination and play, it inspires me to search deep within and reawaken that part of me that I thought was no longer there. I played hide-and-go-seek tag for the first time in 20 years. I played pass and catch with my son because I wanted to go out and “play”. I stopped and took the deepest of breaths of fresh spring air while the sun warmed my face and reminded me that in that moment I was alive. We are being forced to slow down. We are being forced to spend time with those in our lives that otherwise are just bodies passing by. We are being forced to recognize what is truly important. Though it may feel like our world is falling down around us, perhaps it is the very things that we have built up that are needing to be brought down. What is left are the objects that matter most. The stuff that we have forgotten, but was never really gone. Laughter, love, life, and light. The sounds of birds chirping reminding us of it all.
